Hibs defender Felix Passlack believes his side have only themselves to blame after letting Motherwell off the hook in Sunday's painful defeat. The Leith side looked set to win after Martin Boyle cancelled out Lukas Fadinger's opener, but a devastating counter-attack finished by Ibrahim Said late on snatched the points.
Missed chances prove costly
Hibs racked up 19 efforts at goal, six on target, but that counted for nothing. Passlack, reflecting on the game, said: "There is big frustration after that game, I think we had better moments in the game, better chances. We had so many chances at goal in the second half and it's just frustrating that we lost the game."
He added: "There are some positives, especially the start of the second half. The second half in general was really good. Along with the chances we also played some good football but we just have to be a bit more clinical."
Defensive concerns
Hibs also need to shore up at the back after being exposed on the counter for Said's winner. After substitute Rudi Molotnkiov was shoved off the ball just inside the Motherwell half, Hibs failed to recover and were left all over the place. Manager David Gray described his team's defending as 'naive'.
Passlack added: "These kinds of things happen in games. We lose the ball and we are fine with that. But I think the reaction has to be better after that. Everyone is making mistakes on the pitch and it's all about the reaction after that. Motherwell has the quality to score from it and it's a big disappointment."
Quick turnaround
There is no time for Hibs to dwell, as they prepare for a Conference League third qualifying round first leg at home to Shkendija on Thursday, three days before facing Rangers. Passlack said: "We have to clear our mind. It's a different competition and different opponent. We have to make sure that we get a good result in the first leg and then to be ready for Rangers and then for the second leg."
