Brighton midfielder Pascal Gross has urged his team-mates to stay grounded after Sunday's win over Brentford moved the Seagulls into second place in the Premier League table.
The south-coast club, who have already beaten leaders Arsenal and Manchester City this season, are emerging as surprise title contenders. A first-half strike from Diego Gomez and a Gross penalty proved decisive, with Brentford's Igor Thiago sent off for violent conduct in the 23rd minute.
Brighton's position at the break
Fabian Hurzeler's side head into the international break five points behind defending champions Arsenal, but Gross insists they are not thinking about the title.
'No, we're not, but we've had a really good start to the season,' said the 35-year-old, now in his second spell at Brighton, when asked if his team could challenge Arsenal between now and May.
Gross on the win and his penalty
'It's the beginning of the season. You see the Premier League and the margins and you look at the results. We're not getting carried away or anything like that, every game we have to suffer and sometimes it's momentum,' he said.
'But we're really pleased to go into the international break like that.'
Gross also discussed his emphatic spot-kick that effectively settled the contest, saying: 'I practice a lot and it's not always going in there. You can believe me if you want. But it was the right moment it went in so I'm really pleased.'
