Greater Palm Springs Pride is organising a world record attempt for the largest gathering of Marilyn Monroe look-alikes, marking what would have been the Hollywood star's 100th birthday. The event, scheduled for Saturday, hopes to attract 500 participants to surpass the current record of 254 set in Brighton, Australia, in 2020.
Participants paid a $75 registration fee, receiving a white dress inspired by Monroe's iconic subway grate dress, a platinum-blonde wig, cat-eye sunglasses, and a martini glass. The group will pose for a photo at around 4:30 p.m. local time to capture the record attempt during the 'golden hour'.
Funds raised will benefit Greater Palm Springs Pride, a nonprofit promoting LGBTQ rights. Organisers highlighted Monroe's advocacy for authenticity and marginalised communities, stating the event honours her legacy and supports LGBTQ communities locally and globally.
Following the record attempt, a free Cher tribute concert will take place. The weekend also includes film screenings and drag shows celebrating Monroe's life and career.
