Marlie Packer delivered a stunning four-try performance as England thrashed Italy 61-33 in the Women's Six Nations, extending their record winning streak to 37 consecutive Test victories. The Red Roses secured a bonus point within the first 14 minutes at Stadio Sergio Lanfranchi, but the world champions faced a spirited fightback from the hosts and led only 40-19 at halftime.
Dominant Start
Injury-hit England were forced into a late change after Maddie Feaunati was ruled out, with Haineala Lutui earning her first start in the second row and Abi Burton lining up at number eight. However, they needed just four minutes to break the deadlock when Packer touched down following Zoe Harrison's kick. Amy Cokayne grabbed the first of her two tries five minutes later before Helena Rowland spotted a gap and raced over. When Mia Venner crossed for a fourth try in the 14th minute, England led 26-0 and appeared set for a rout.
Italian Response
Italy responded with determination. Vittoria Vecchini got the hosts on the board three minutes later, followed by a penalty try and a score from Alissa Ranuccini. Packer had already added her second try by this point, but the Italians kept fighting.
Second-Half Surge
Burton got England on the scoresheet early in the second half before Packer added two more tries to complete her four-try haul. Harrison converted all of them, contributing a 16-point personal tally. Italy replacement Francesca Sgorbini went over in the 56th minute and added another on the stroke of full-time to help the hosts win the final quarter, but it was not enough to prevent another comprehensive England victory.
The result keeps England on course for another grand slam ahead of next Sunday's crucial trip to France.
