Andre Onana's place as Manchester United's first-choice goalkeeper is in doubt following a disappointing performance in the Carabao Cup loss to Grimsby Town. The 29-year-old, who returned to the line-up after Altay Bayindir's error-strewn displays, conceded two goals at Blundell Park, including a shot beaten at his near post by Charles Vernam and a corner that led to Tyrell Warren's goal.
Manager Ruben Amorim had earlier outlined his expectations for Onana, stating: 'He needs to do his job... I just expect the best from him.' However, the goalkeeper's display failed to meet those demands. Despite the setback, Amorim refused to single out Onana for criticism, instead blaming the entire team for the defeat. 'It's not the goalkeeper, it's everything,' he said.
Reports have linked United with a move for Royal Antwerp goalkeeper Senne Lammens, who was left out of his side's squad for their match against Mechelen amid a prospective £17.3 million transfer. Lammens would provide competition for Onana, though Amorim has suggested any incoming deal is not dependent on an exit.
