Norway vs Brazil: Team News and Predicted Lineup
Norway take on Brazil in the World Cup 2026 round of 16 today, with Julian Ryerson a major doubt for the clash. The Borussia Dortmund right-back has been sidelined since the group stage win over Senegal, where he was forced off after just 13 minutes with a thigh injury. However, Ryerson has resumed training ahead of the showdown with the Selecao in New Jersey, raising hopes of a potential return.
While Ryerson is understood to be close to full fitness, it remains unclear whether he will be fit enough to start. If he is not risked, Marcus Pedersen is expected to deputise in defence once more. Norway head coach Stale Solbakken is otherwise expected to keep faith with the same side that defeated Ivory Coast in the last 32.
Erling Haaland Leads Norway's Attack
Much of the focus will once again be on prolific striker Erling Haaland, who has scored five goals in four appearances at his first World Cup. His tally includes a late winner against Ivory Coast, establishing him firmly in the Golden Boot race. Only Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe have found the back of the net more often at this tournament, with Haaland sitting just two goals behind the pair.
Behind Haaland, Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard has been instrumental in creating chances, providing three assists. Bodo/Glimt's Patrick Berg has contributed two assists as well. Either side of Haaland will be Atletico Madrid striker Alexander Sorloth and RB Leipzig’s Antonio Nusa, the latter of whom scored a stunning first World Cup goal against Ivory Coast.
Team Selection and Key Players
Fulham’s Oscar Bobb will be pushing for a start after a lively cameo in that match in Dallas. The predicted Norway XI is: Nyland; Pedersen, Ajer, Heggem, Wolfe; Odegaard, Berge, Berg; Sorloth, Haaland, Nusa. The only doubt is Ryerson.
The match is scheduled for 9pm BST on Sunday July 5, 2026, at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, and will be broadcast live on ITV1.
