Christopher Reeve's son Will reveals final promise to his father before Superman star's death

Christopher Reeve's youngest son, Will Reeve, has revealed the powerful promise he made to his father in the moments before his death. The iconic Superman actor died unexpectedly from heart failure in 2004 at age 52, nine years after an equestrian accident left him paralysed.

Recalling the moment they had to say goodbye, Will stated in a clip shown on Tuesday's Good Morning America: 'I told him that I loved him. I would do whatever I could to make him proud.' The memory is featured in the new documentary film, Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story, which showcases the actor's life and legacy.

Will was only 12 when his father passed away. His mother Dana died of lung cancer in 2006, just 17 months after Christopher. Speaking candidly about the loss, Will admitted in the documentary: 'Despite the love and security that my siblings provided me... that was the moment, March 6, 2006... I've been alone since then.'

All three of Reeve's children work with the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation, which aims to cure spinal cord injury and improve quality of life for those impacted by paralysis. The documentary premiered at Sundance Film Festival in January and will be released theatrically on September 21 and 25, what would have been Reeve's 72nd birthday.
