His clipped responses to the press have already become a hallmark of his dealings, a stark contrast to Eddie Howe's more expansive media briefings between 2021 and 2026.
A Toon insider said Jaissle's press conferences at Al-Ahli in the Saudi Pro League were brief, often consisting of a couple of statements before a polite farewell. However, Premier League rules require more time from head coaches, with a league deadline of around 1pm on Fridays to satisfy broadcasters. Howe held his at 9am on Fridays, but Jaissle has opted for Thursday afternoon slots, with this week's scheduled for 6pm due to later training following the West Brom match.
Cup Ambitions and Board Expectations
Regardless of team selection against West Brom, the Carabao Cup is seen as Newcastle's most realistic route to success this season, given the absence of European football. Last season, the club's internal aim was Champions League qualification, a goal displayed on the training ground wall 12 months ago. That ambition was not met as Newcastle finished 12th in the Premier League.
CEO David Hopkinson's comments in March, when Howe was under pressure, suggest a realistic target for Jaissle is a Europa Conference League spot. Exceeding that with an FA Cup or Carabao Cup win, or qualifying for the Europa League or Champions League, would mark an impressive first campaign.

Jaissle has signed a four-year contract, and a season of stability with a top-10 finish would likely be tolerated, depending on how the team performs. The board cannot expect too much after a summer of change and a new policy of signing young players, but they can still aim high. In the short term, the priority is simply advancing to the third round of the Carabao Cup.
