Newcastle stars assist police after teammate's bow found

Two Newcastle United players stopped to assist police after their teammate Amar Dedic was reported carrying a bow and arrow at a Northumberland beauty spot. The 24-year-old was flagged to authorities after a walker spotted him and a friend with the weapon.

According to the Daily Mail, six police cars were dispatched to the area, with officers stopping the pair around seven miles from the Darras Hall estate on the outskirts of the city. By chance, Dedic's teammate Mark Gillespie and former defender Paul Dummett were in the area and stopped to aid police.

Police Confiscate Bow and Arrows

Dedic and his friend were questioned by police, but it was concluded they posed no threat to the public. The Bosnia and Herzegovina international was allowed to leave, but had his bow and arrow confiscated. Northumbria Police confirmed that enquiries are still ongoing into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Shortly after 1.55pm on Wednesday, we received a report of two men carrying a bow and arrows while walking along a track by the reservoir on Military Road in the Harlow Hill area.

“Officers attended and subsequently stopped a vehicle in the Darras Hall area and seized a bow and arrows. At this stage, it is understood they were for recreational use and there was no threat to the public. Enquiries are ongoing.”

No Disciplinary Action Expected

Hunting with a bow and arrow remains illegal in Britain. The Mail's report adds that Dedic will face no disciplinary action from Newcastle.

Dedic moved to Newcastle this summer for £29.5 million from Benfica, reuniting with former boss Matthias Jaissle, under whom he played at both FC Liefering and RB Salzburg. He has made seven appearances in the Premier League this season, contributing two assists, as the Magpies' form has started to decline under their new manager.
