Gary Neville has refused to rule Liverpool out of the Premier League title race despite them trailing leaders Arsenal by seven points. The former Manchester United defender believes Arsenal are the best team in the league and should go on to win the title, but he acknowledges that Liverpool are the only side capable of stopping them.
Neville's comments came after both teams returned to winning ways on Saturday. Arsenal beat Burnley 2-0 before Liverpool defeated Aston Villa 2-0 at Anfield, with Mohamed Salah and fit-again Ryan Gravenberch scoring. The results prevented Liverpool from falling further behind the Gunners.
Speaking on NBC Sports, Neville said: 'I just think they're the best team in the league and they've got the right squad. It's only November so it's crazy to suggest you should win the league from here – but they should. I can't think of any player Arsenal might lose now and it would mean they would lose the title. Every position is covered.'
Neville highlighted that Liverpool would need to recover quickly to mount a serious challenge. 'Liverpool are the only team but they would have to get back on track very quickly,' he said. The Reds travel to Manchester City next weekend in a game that could have major implications on the title race, while Arsenal face Sunderland.
