Gary Neville has backed the referee's decision not to award Manchester United a penalty during Sunday's Premier League match against Ipswich Town. Youri Tielemans went down inside the box after a challenge from Dara O'Shea, but the Belgium international's appeals were waved away.
VAR and referee agree on no penalty
Referee Craig Pawson decided against pointing to the spot, and VAR reviewed the incident before agreeing with the on-field call. Tielemans had been insistent that he was fouled following contact from O'Shea's right leg and left arm.
Neville's verdict on the incident
Speaking on co-commentary for Sky Sports, Neville shared the same view as Pawson and VAR, believing Tielemans was "too theatrical" in his fall. He said: "It was too theatrical, and even if he was touched, there's just a lot of theatre to the fall. What you can see is how it just didn't look like a penalty to the eye. You can see those arms being thrown forward at the end."
