Nagelsmann warned off Man United job by Oliver Kahn
Nagelsmann warned off Man United job by Oliver Kahn

Julian Nagelsmann has been cautioned against accepting the Manchester United managerial position by former Bayern Munich chairman Oliver Kahn, who pointed to the recent struggles of previous head coaches at Old Trafford. With Michael Carrick under mounting pressure, United could be seeking their fourth permanent head coach in just two years.

United's Recent Woes

The team's 4-1 defeat to Como in the Champions League extended their winless run to seven matches. Sunday's Premier League fixture at home to Bournemouth is now seen as pivotal for Carrick's future in the role.

United have been linked with several potential replacements, including Brighton's Fabian Hurzeler and Aston Villa's Unai Emery. Eddie Howe and Kieran McKenna, both currently out of work, have also been mentioned as contenders.

Kahn's Warning to Nagelsmann

Nagelsmann, who left his role as Germany head coach after a disappointing World Cup campaign, reportedly would be open to replacing Carrick. However, Kahn, who worked with Nagelsmann at Bayern Munich, advised caution.

Speaking on the RTL/Sky Germany show Triple - der Hagedorn Fußballtalk, Kahn said: "From his point of view, it's not an easy situation. He isn't someone with a great deal of experience, particularly when it comes to foreign teams."

He added: "The Premier League and Manchester United have not been known for much continuity in the managerial position in recent years. He has to ask himself, 'what is my next step? Does it have to be the right one? Or do I immediately associate it with an enormous risk like Manchester United, where essentially every manager in recent years has failed sooner or later?' You should look very carefully at where you're going."

Experience and Fit

Kahn continued: "Bayern Munich and the national team were already big blows for him. You have to think carefully, 'where do my strengths lie? Which club can I really help?' I think Julian is someone who can develop a club and a team and take them further. Whether Manchester United are the right next step for that is something only he can know."

United have tried experienced managers, former players, and young coaches without success. A Premier League-proven manager now appears essential, with Emery arguably the best fit for the club's needs. Antonio Conte also has extensive management experience in England, but the former Napoli boss issued a statement dismissing "unfounded" reports that he has been making demands to clubs, clarifying that "no negotiations at an advanced stage" are underway.
