Murphy: Arsenal's rivals should be 'worried'

Danny Murphy has warned Arsenal's Premier League title rivals should be 'worried' that the champions sit six points clear at the top despite not 'really playing that well' for much of the season.

Arsenal extended their lead at the summit with a hard-fought 1-0 victory at home to Hull on Saturday, with Martin Odegaard scoring the only goal of the game to continue his strong start to the campaign.

Manchester City's struggles continue

At the City Ground, Manchester City were beaten by a Liam Delap-inspired Nottingham Forest in what was their third successive Premier League defeat, leaving them further behind the Gunners.

Brighton, the only team to have beaten Arsenal this season, will hope to close the gap when they face Brentford at the Amex Stadium.

Murphy's warning to Arsenal's rivals

'These numbers here, 27 points after ten games, that club normally wins the title,' the former Liverpool and Tottenham midfielder said on Match of the Day.

'I think what's worrying for everyone else is they've got this amount of wins, this amount of points, and they haven't really played that well. Maybe in the Chelsea game they were outstanding but they've just got over the line other than that.'

Murphy added that he expects Mikel Arteta's side to improve as the season progresses.

'There's more to come from this team, make no qualms about that,' the former England international said. 'I think they're in a wonderful position and a really great place.'

Houghton impressed by squad depth

Former Lioness Steph Houghton, also in the Match of the Day studio, was similarly impressed by Arsenal's start to the season.

'It's obvious how much quality Arsenal already had in their squad and with Arteta being there for a number of years and they've added two or three more players this season,' Houghton said.

'When you have an environment that is really stable and with Arteta, you know what jobs you need to do as a player. So I feel as though at this moment in time, with that squad depth and the fact you can bring on the likes of Eberechi Eze and Mikel Merino in the second half, it does become an advantage when you're already top of the league.'

Arsenal return to Premier League action against Newcastle at St James' Park in a week's time, followed by a Champions League home clash with Borussia Dortmund three days later, before hosting Manchester City at the Emirates.
