Mason Mount says he owes Manchester United a trophy as he prepares to feature in Wednesday's Europa League final against Tottenham in Bilbao. The midfielder, who joined the club from Chelsea for £55m in 2023, has endured a difficult two years blighted by injury, but is now fully fit and eager to make amends.
Mount has scored just four goals and provided one assist in 44 appearances for United, with calf and hamstring problems ruling him out of 50 matches since his arrival. However, he has netted three times this month, including two in the 4-1 semi-final win over Athletic Bilbao, and looks at ease as a No.10 in Ruben Amorim's 3-4-2-1 system.
Speaking ahead of the final, Mount said he wants to create chances for his teammates and win trophies. "I want to have those moments," he said. "I haven't had a lot of opportunities to show what I can do, so any time I'm on the pitch I want to make an impact."
United face a Spurs side that has beaten them three times this season, and Mount acknowledged the threat they pose. "We know what Spurs can do. They have very good players and they're dangerous," he said. "This season they've had wins against us, so we need to be ready. It's a massive game for both clubs."
The winners will secure a £100m place in the Champions League, adding extra significance to the match. Mount stressed United's determination to finish the season strongly by lifting the trophy, saying: "We want to win games and win trophies. That's always been our goal."
