HJK defender Amara Nallo has revealed the key skill of Motherwell's Emmanuel Longelo ahead of their Conference League qualifier. Nallo, who came through the ranks at West Ham United, remembers Longelo's impressive left foot and striking ability.
Nallo's Memories of Longelo
Nallo, now on loan at HJK from Liverpool, was a few years below Longelo at West Ham. The 19-year-old said: "Emmanuel, I remember him coming through at West Ham. He had a lovely left foot and he has a lovely strike, I remember seeing some of his clips."
Although they never played together, Nallo is aware of the threat Longelo poses. "I know of him although I never got to play with him. He is slightly older than me. I don't really know him (personally) to speak to but I will still say, 'Hi'. Knowing your player and the opposition is important when you go into these games," he added.
Expecting an Attacking Motherwell
Nallo expects Motherwell to play an attacking style despite changes in management and personnel. He acknowledged Motherwell's strong season, noting they finished fourth. "I heard they were the best playing team last season. As a defender, I need to be aware of those situations. It is good to have all the information so you know what you are up against," he said.
European Ambitions
The winner of the tie will face Bundesliga side Freiburg in the final play-off round. Nallo is confident HJK can progress. "We will be aiming for two wins in both games," he insisted. "We are confident. We believe we can play in the Conference League and we will see how it goes."
Nallo, who will make his European debut in the first leg at the Bolt Arena, sees the competition as a chance to improve. "It is very good because it gives you European exposure. A lot of clubs will see you and as I said it is good for the CV," he said.
Settling in at HJK
He has adapted well to life in Helsinki. "I have settled in well and adapted well. From the first training session, I saw there was a high intensity. That is good because that is the intensity that Liverpool train at as well. It will be good for me to improve my game," Nallo concluded.
