Salah Booed by Roma Fans Despite Respectful Gesture

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah was met with a chorus of boos and whistles from Roma supporters during Wednesday night's Champions League clash at the Stadio Olimpico. The Egyptian international, who left Roma for Liverpool in a £37 million transfer last summer, was making his first return to the Italian capital since his departure.

Despite Salah having left the Serie A club on good terms and notably refraining from celebrating his two goals in the first leg at Anfield, Roma fans chose to greet his every touch with hostility. The 25-year-old scored 34 goals in 83 appearances during his two seasons in Rome before moving to Merseyside.

Liverpool fans expressed bewilderment at the treatment of their star player. One supporter tweeted: 'If Salah is polite to the Roma fans by not celebrating his goals last week, why is it okay for them to whistle whenever he has the ball today?' Another wrote: 'Hopefully Salah celebrates if he scores. He shows everybody with the celebration at the first leg, that he has a lot of respect for Roma and their fans straight up boo him. Wow.'
