Millwall's Under-the-Radar Promotion Push Gains Momentum

Millwall are flying under the radar in the Championship promotion race, sitting third with four games remaining. The Lions, last in the top flight in 1990, are aiming to reach the Premier League for the first time under manager Alex Neil, who has been nominated for the Championship manager of the season award.

Club legend Tony Craig, who won two League One play-off finals with Millwall, believes the team has the resilience to succeed. “Anything is possible at the football club. The Premier League is the promised land and they will fight to get there. If that means the play-offs then I think they will be the team nobody would want to face,” he said.

Neil, who replaced Neil Harris in December 2024, has transformed the side with a disciplined, counter-attacking style. Craig, now coaching the under-16s, praised his quiet but demanding approach: “He’s very quiet, keeps himself under the radar, but behind the scenes he works harder than anybody. He’s demanding and he sets his teams up really well – they’re hard to beat.”

Millwall have won one of their last five games, but a 2-1 victory at Middlesbrough highlighted their threat. With matches against QPR and Stoke next, they hope to build momentum for a likely play-off battle. Craig added: “It would be historic. An amazing achievement for the football club.”
