Mikel Arteta has spoken about Arsenal's transfer activity, with the club continuing to be linked with Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes. The Brazilian has been a target all summer, but no official contact or bids have been made. However, reports suggest ongoing talks between intermediaries.
“A lot is happening,” Arteta said. “We have identified where we have opportunities to grow and to improve and to evolve our game and what is going to be needed to achieve that. Hopefully very soon we can start to put things in a very concrete way.”
Arsenal's Transfer Targets
Alongside Guimaraes, Arsenal are also keen on his Brazil teammate Vinicius Jr, although the winger may stay at Real Madrid despite an offer. The club have made two new signings so far this summer: goalkeeper Illan Meslier on a free transfer from Leeds United and Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge for a £34m fee. Other linked players include Morgan Rogers, who moved to Chelsea for £117m, Paris Saint-Germain's Bradley Barcola, and Bournemouth's Eli Junior Kroupi.
No Newcastle Intervention
Newcastle United's owners PIF have not intervened in the transfer saga despite claims of high-level talks. Chronicle Live understands that the club's Saudi backers have not waded in, and suggestions of talks above boardroom level with super agent Kia Joorabchian have not taken place.
