Former Manchester City defender Micah Richards believes the club's FA Cup triumph has shifted momentum in the Premier League title race, handing Arsenal a new challenge. Speaking after City's 1-0 victory over Chelsea in the FA Cup final, Richards suggested the win provides a psychological edge as Guardiola's side chase a domestic treble.
Antoine Semenyo's second-half strike proved decisive at Wembley, though City were not at their fluent best after scoring nine goals in their previous three league matches. Richards, now a pundit, told BBC Sport: 'They are in with a chance and that’s all that matters. Confidence-wise, yes because they can focus on the league now.'
City face Bournemouth on Tuesday, knowing a slip-up could hand Arsenal the title if the Gunners beat Burnley the night before. Guardiola has delayed celebrations until after the season, saying: 'No [there will be no celebration]. Maybe one beer. Next Monday we are going to celebrate with a parade in Manchester.'
The Spaniard also criticised fixture scheduling, noting Chelsea had seven days to prepare while City travelled for six hours by train. 'It’s a problem in this country,' he added. City need to win their remaining two games to secure a fourth consecutive league title.
