McCoist mocks 'daft wee' Celtic protestors after Desmond stunt

Rangers legend Ally McCoist has branded Celtic's protestors "embarrassing" after principal shareholder Dermot Desmond was targeted at a golf tournament.

Protest at golf championship

Hoops tycoon Desmond, 76, was pelted by tennis balls as a group of balaclava-clad fans stormed the annual Alfred Dunhill Links championship in St Andrews.

Parkhead chiefs later released a furious statement claiming those behind the demo "brought shame" upon the club's name and warned that they would be slapped with indefinite bans.

McCoist's reaction

And Rangers legend McCoist took aim at the demonstrators - claiming they ran away like "daft wee boys" after laughing at footage posted online.

He told talkSPORT Breakfast: "It's an interesting one at the weekend. Dermot Desmond was playing golf up at the Dunhill. That was embarrassing, wasn't it?

"He plays every year. He loves it. And fair play to him, he goes up there and plays every year. And all these numpties come on and then they are running away like daft wee boys. It is embarrassing, it's exactly what it is. It's actually hilarious if you look at it."

Agbonlahor's take

Radio sidekick Gabriel Agbonlahor also stuck the boot in as he joked: "I saw it. I didn't know if it was real or not. You can't tell with social media.

"I didn't know if it was AI or something else. Tennis balls while he was playing? Embarrassing. Do you know what he should've done? He should've got his golf club and pinged a golf ball off them while they were running away!"
