Max Dowman: How many games will Arsenal star miss after red card?
Max Dowman: How many games will Arsenal star miss?

Arsenal teenager Max Dowman will serve a three-match suspension after being sent off during the Carabao Cup defeat to Fleetwood Town, with the ban applying to Premier League fixtures.

Dowman was shown a red card with five minutes of normal time remaining for appearing to kick out at Harrison Neal, following a forceful tackle from the Fleetwood midfielder. The incident led to a coming together of players from both sides, and referee Michael Salisbury issued the red card once order was restored.

Red Card Reaction and Confirmation

The 16-year-old was visibly shocked by the decision, pulling his shirt over his head as he left the pitch, where manager Mikel Arteta spoke to him. A statement via the Premier League's official website confirmed the suspension's scope: "Premier League yellow cards are not carried over to the EFL Cup or FA Cup. But when players receive a red card, they ARE carried over to - and from - the domestic cup competitions."

Dowman watched the remainder of the tie from the dressing room as Bruno Guimaraes missed the decisive penalty, allowing Fleetwood to win 5-3 in one of the competition's biggest upsets. The result ended Arsenal's hopes of avenging last season's Carabao Cup final defeat, and Dowman's chances of covering for the injured Bukayo Saka have been set back by the ban.

Missed Fixtures and Return Date

Because the red card was for violent conduct, Dowman's three-match suspension takes effect immediately. He will miss Arsenal's next match against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday, as well as Premier League games at home to Hull on November 7 and away to Newcastle a fortnight later.

Domestic bans do not apply to European competitions, so Dowman is available for the Champions League fixture against Slavia Praha next Wednesday. He can next feature in the Premier League from November 29, when Manchester City visit the Emirates Stadium.
