German head coach Matthias Jaissle has been with the squad in La Manga since Saturday after agreeing a contract with Newcastle United, but the club are waiting on paperwork from Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli before officially unveiling him as head coach.
The deal and appointment are still "progressing," and the hope is that the Jaissle era will start in due course.
Howe's departure confirmed
The delay follows Newcastle's announcement on Friday that Eddie Howe had informed the club of his decision to step down as head coach.
"Newcastle United can announce that Eddie Howe has informed the club of his decision to step down as head coach. The club has accepted Eddie's decision and would like to thank him for his extraordinary contribution," the club said.
The club added: "The process to recruit a new head coach is at an advanced stage and updates will be communicated shortly."
Also leaving the club are coaches Jason Tindall, Graeme Jones, Stephen Purches and Simon Weatherstone, and head of performance Dan Hodges.
First game in charge
Newcastle are due to spend a week in La Manga for an intense training programme before ending their time in Spain with a match against Valencia at the Mestalla.
That game will be Jaissle's first in charge, 10 days after Howe's final match as boss, a 4-1 defeat to Bristol City. Howe resigned after the game and told staff when the team returned to Tyneside, ending his almost five-year tenure.
