Martinez repeats Man United criticism in CBS interview

Lisandro Martinez repeated that he expects more from Manchester United on multiple occasions after the 2-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.

The 28-year-old defender spoke to Peter Schmeichel during a television interview with American broadcaster CBS Sports after the match. He said: "We're not playing well as a team. You can see the disconnection; we can't [string] three or four passes together, and the body language [is bad].

"We missed some chances; we are negative, and yeah, when you play against these teams, especially in the Champions League, you can't miss opportunities, and you can't concede the goal we conceded in the first minutes."

Martinez calls for more ambition

Martinez added: "Trying to be positive and trying to be honest, we have to change and do more because we are capable of doing better; we have the players."

He continued: "But also, when you watch television and watch the games, you see the players and the managers, and you put the finger [and blame them], which is right. We take the responsibility, but also as a club, I expect more. I'm not gonna close my mouth. I expect more.

"We need more ambition. We need to talk more about winning Champions League, talk more about winning the Premier League instead of other things. Every season, we're talking about the same thing. Of course, but if we don't say the truth, nothing will change."

Similar comments to Amazon Prime

Martinez shared a similar sentiment when speaking with Amazon Prime Video after the same match. His comments to CBS Sports were made in an interview not aired in the UK.

The interview comes after Manchester United director of football Jason Wilcox was called out by Martinez straight after the defeat to Atletico Madrid.
