Mason Greenwood continued his fine form for Marseille with a brace in a 5-1 thrashing of Nice on Friday, taking his tally to ten league goals this season and moving him to the top of the Ligue 1 Golden Boot standings.
The 24-year-old, who joined Marseille from Manchester United in the summer of 2024, impressed French journalists with his performance. La Parisien led with the headline: 'Thanks to a brace from Greenwood, the Olympians sink the Aiglons and take over as leaders', while GET Football awarded him an eight out of ten, noting he 'sprung into life' on the counter-attack and scored 'a perfectly placed, low, right-footed shot'.
Ahead of the match, Greenwood gave a rare interview. When asked about his best move, he said: 'The stepover.' He also revealed he watched Brazilian legend Ronaldo as a youngster. On staying composed in front of goal, Greenwood said: 'The night before a game, I'm in bed and you're just visualising things in your head... so when it comes to it it's second nature really.' He also discussed his ability to use both feet, saying: 'When you've got both feet, the defender sometimes likes to show you one way... I can take the opportunity.'
Greenwood's transfer from United included a sell-on clause entitling the Red Devils to 50% of any future fee Marseille receive for the player.
