Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca has said Omar Marmoush must decide if he is happy enough to stay at the club, raising the possibility of another exit in the transfer window. Marmoush scored twice in a 3-1 friendly win over Atletico Madrid in Seoul, but his future remains uncertain.
Marmoush's limited role last season
Marmoush only joined City in January 2025 but struggled to get into the team last season, with Erling Haaland the undisputed first-choice striker and other attackers impressing instead. He joined up with the squad for the last two of three friendlies on the pre-season tour under new boss Maresca.
Maresca's comments on the player's future
Speaking after the match, Maresca said the goals would boost the player but was less certain when asked about his future. "The answer has to be similar to the one I answer about James Trafford," he said. "Players work every day, they want to play so when they don't play they are not happy. Omar did not play a lot last year so his desire is probably to play more minutes. It doesn't mean that he isn't going to play more minutes here but it's also his decision, and he needs to decide."
Transfer deadline pressure
City have vowed to replace any player who moves on in the transfer window, but with just over three weeks left before the deadline, a deal for Marmoush would have to be put together quickly. Tottenham are reported to be one of the clubs interested in him.
A number of other players that featured prominently on the City tour face uncertain futures this month. Tijjani Reijnders, Rico Lewis and Savinho are among those flying back into Manchester on Monday morning not certain over where they will be playing this season.
