Enzo Maresca believes Manchester City lack the leadership qualities that Enzo Fernandez brings to Chelsea, after the Argentine midfielder inspired a 2-1 win over the Premier League champions at Stamford Bridge.
Fernandez's impact
Fernandez, who captained Chelsea for the first time, scored the opening goal and was named man of the match. Maresca said the 24-year-old's performance highlighted the kind of character City are missing.
“Man City have many fantastic players, but they don't have a leader like Enzo,” Maresca said. “He is a captain on the pitch, and that is something they need.”
City's struggles
City have now lost two of their opening three league matches, a poor start by their standards. Without a natural organiser in midfield, they have looked disjointed in both defeats.
Maresca, who worked under Pep Guardiola at City, said the champions remain a top side but lack the on-field direction that Fernandez provides.
