Manchester United have made one new signing this week, with goalkeeper Kit Margetson arriving on a free transfer after being contracted to Swansea City. It follows a quieter week at Carrington after a deluge of reports linking the Reds with midfielders across Europe, and Margetson is not expected to be the last new face through the door this summer.

Lewis Hall: a move would cost over £50m
A deal for Lewis Hall is hard to price because Newcastle United have no need to sell and need to prove they can stop the flow of players leaving St James' Park. The hunch is that it would take well over £50m.
Hall is seen as needing to push for the move. United want him, but he would need to be clear with Newcastle that he wants to leave, which is no guarantee. Newcastle can play hard ball after losing star names, with a sense of drift at the club. United are likely to try, but much depends on the player and the selling club.
Harry Amass: not the same equation
Harry Amass has not been sold and there is no guarantee he will be. He could leave on loan again and potentially sign a new contract. United do not feel he is ready for a major squad role this season, so they will push to bring in another left-back whatever happens with Hall. Even if Amass stays, Noussair Mazraoui and Patrick Dorgu would likely be considered options ahead of him.
Vitek likely to be sold, Zirkzee harder to shift
Vitek, 22, has just had an excellent season in the Championship and is a very talented goalkeeper, so there will be a lot of interest. Zirkzee is a more difficult sell: he has not cut it at United and has done nothing to suggest to a buying club he is worth spending on. A loan with an option or obligation to buy is possible, but a permanent sale this summer is unlikely.
Defensive midfielder: a third signing still likely
Another defensive midfielder is very likely to arrive, but there has been no real movement in the last week. United's view is they could stop at two signings after bringing in Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans, although that should not be read into too much.
They are taking stock of the market and watching Aurelien Tchouameni at Real Madrid, but that remains a very difficult deal. The third signing would more likely be in the £30m to £50m price range than a big-name, big-money arrival.
Striker addition is down the list of priorities
There was surprise that United did not go for Danny Welbeck, who felt like he fit the bill this summer in many ways. If Zirkzee goes, another forward could come in, but the position is down the list of priorities at the moment.
Benjamin Sesko is expected to play a bigger role this season, with Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha able to play through the middle. Not bringing someone in feels like a risk, but any arrival would likely be a low-key signing with experience to support Sesko, which is why Welbeck made sense.
