Ruben Amorim has admitted there are no active discussions regarding new signings for Manchester United in the upcoming January transfer window, issuing a stark reality check for fans hoping for reinforcements. The Portuguese head coach stressed that the club’s focus remains on the current squad and the immediate challenges ahead.
United invested over £200 million in the summer, bringing in players such as Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo, and Matheus Cunha, but gaps remain—particularly in central midfield and at wing-back, key areas in Amorim’s system. Despite these needs, the manager indicated that financial constraints might prevent further business mid-season.
“The transfer window is not going to change,” Amorim said on Boxing Day. “We have no conversations at this moment to have any change in the squad. There’s a process, there’s an idea that is going to continue.” He acknowledged that while the team is close to Champions League places, they are also just as near to the sides below them, urging caution.
On the future of young midfielder Kobbie Mainoo, Amorim dismissed speculation about a potential exit, insisting the 19-year-old remains central to his plans. “He’s going to be the future of Manchester United, that is my feeling,” Amorim stated, despite Mainoo’s reduced playing time this season.
United currently sit sixth in the Premier League, three points off fourth-placed Liverpool but only three ahead of Fulham in 11th, leaving little room for error as the season progresses.
