Manchester United's pursuit of Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott has received a significant boost following his early return from England's pre-World Cup camp. Scott, who was called up by Thomas Tuchel for friendlies in the United States, is now set to head back to the UK, freeing him to discuss a potential summer move to Old Trafford.
According to reports, United are unwilling to enter a bidding war for Newcastle's Elliot Anderson, instead focusing on more realistic targets like Scott and West Ham's Mateus Fernandes, both valued at around £80 million. Scott's return from the US could facilitate talks and even a medical should the clubs agree a fee.
The 22-year-old, who joined Bournemouth from Bristol City for £25 million in 2023, has impressed in the Premier League. However, United may face competition from Liverpool, with new boss Andoni Iraola also linked to the player. Michael Carrick's side are already close to signing Ederson from Atalanta for £39 million, though his move may be delayed due to a late World Cup call-up.
In addition, United are reportedly preparing a £35 million bid for Lens midfielder Mamadou Sangare. The 23-year-old Mali international enjoyed a breakthrough season in Ligue 1, helping Lens win the Coupe de France and finish second. The potential transfer fits United's new strategy of targeting cost-effective players who fit Carrick's desired profile.
