Manchester United are reportedly planning a major midfield overhaul in the summer, with Newcastle United duo Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali identified as primary targets. The club is believed to have set aside around £175 million for new signings, with a significant portion allocated to replacing Casemiro, who is expected to leave.
According to reports, initial informal contact has already been made with both players. Casemiro himself has reportedly singled out Guimaraes as his successor. Newcastle are said to be negotiating new contracts with the pair, but no extensions have been finalised yet.
Other midfield targets include Nottingham Forest's Elliot Anderson, Crystal Palace's Adam Wharton, and Wolves' Joao Gomes. United's midfield revamp is part of a broader squad transformation under interim manager Michael Carrick, who has overseen six wins in seven matches since replacing Ruben Amorim.
In addition to midfield reinforcements, United are eyeing RB Leipzig's 19-year-old left-winger Yan Diomande, who has 16 goal contributions this season. The club also plans to address the left-wing position, with Marcus Rashford currently on loan at Barcelona and likely to leave permanently.
Up front, Benjamin Sesko has impressed under Carrick with seven goals in his last eight games, but United may seek another striker. Rasmus Hojlund could return from his loan at Napoli, while Crystal Palace's Jean-Philippe Mateta was linked in January.
A potential starting XI next season could include Lammens; Dorgu, Maguire, Martinez, Dalot; Tonali, Guimaraes, Fernandes; Diomande, Sesko, Mbeumo, with substitutes such as Bayindir, Shaw, Mainoo, Diallo, Cunha, Mateta, and Hojlund.
