Manchester United are reportedly ready to give up on their pursuit of Newcastle left-back Lewis Hall and are considering a move for Fulham's Antonee Robinson instead. The Red Devils have already strengthened their midfield this summer with the arrivals of Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans for a combined fee of around £83 million, but their transfer activity is not expected to end there.
Left-back identified as priority
With Luke Shaw currently the only senior specialist left-back in the squad, the position has become the primary focus at Old Trafford. United's resurgence under Michael Carrick has raised ambitions, and the club's hierarchy is determined to close the gap on Arsenal and Manchester City.
Newcastle and England defender Hall, 21, has been at the top of United's shortlist after three impressive seasons at St James' Park. The former Chelsea academy product is believed to be keen on a move to Old Trafford, especially following Eddie Howe's sudden departure from Newcastle. However, the Magpies have reportedly ruled out a summer sale, deeming Hall 'untouchable' due to his age and contract situation.
Robinson as a cheaper alternative
According to talkSPORT, United could now switch their attention to Fulham's Antonee Robinson, 28, who impressed for the United States at the World Cup. Robinson has been a stalwart for Fulham since joining from Wigan Athletic in 2020, making 215 appearances in all competitions. His contract with the Cottagers runs until June 2028.
United's other out-and-out left-back, Harry Amass, is likely to leave on loan again this summer. The 19-year-old academy product impressed on loan at Sheffield United during the first half of last season, but a serious hamstring injury in January cut short his spell at Norwich City.
Patrick Dorgu, who was brought in as a left-back in early 2025, has since excelled in a more advanced role under both Ruben Amorim and Michael Carrick. Other left-backs linked with United include Arsenal's Myles Lewis-Skelly and Racing Santander's Jorge Salinas, with the club reportedly 'very serious' about Salinas after monitoring his performances at the Under-19 European Championship. Salinas has a €16m (£13.7m) release clause and is also attracting interest from Barcelona.
