Several Manchester United players sought out Ruben Amorim following the final pre-season friendly of the summer against AC Milan on Saturday afternoon. Seven months after his United sacking, Amorim was reunited with his former club for a friendly at the Tarczynski Arena in Wroclaw. Milan ran out 4-2 winners against United, who suffered their second defeat of the summer.
Players show respect to former boss
Captain Bruno Fernandes was the first player to make his way over to Amorim after the final whistle. Fernandes greeted Amorim's backroom staff, who had all served alongside him during his tenure at United, before sharing a brief exchange with the former United manager. Noussair Mazraoui was the next player to approach, with the defender sharing a warm embrace with Amorim.
Luke Shaw, Joshua Zirkzee, Ayden Heaven and Lisandro Martinez also went over to greet Amorim. Matheus Cunha was the last to catch up with the 41-year-old, at least in the public eye, with the pair spotted sharing a laugh together.
Amorim reflects on United spell
Amorim was axed in January due to growing friction with United's board. He publicly challenged the club's decision-makers when speaking to the press after the defeat at Leeds' Elland Road, insisting that others within the club should concentrate on their own responsibilities and allow him to focus on his. However, Amorim recently acknowledged he made mistakes during his spell at United.
When questioned about what went wrong in Manchester, he admitted: "The first thing is that it doesn't matter anymore. That is the feeling. There's a history, then something happens, the context changes, and you focus on the next challenge. I learned a lot. It would be hard to point to one thing, but the important thing that I clearly know is that I made a lot of mistakes."

In the Premier League, Amorim recorded the poorest win ratio (32 per cent), the worst goals conceded per game ratio (1.53) and the lowest clean sheet ratio (15 per cent) of any United manager in the club's history. But he will have been privately pleased to get one over on his previous club with a 4-2 victory in Poland.
Harry Maguire headed the Red Devils in front after only two minutes but Samuel Chukwueze drew the Serie A side level. Patrick Dorgu restored the United lead only for three goals in 14 minutes from Milan - through Alphadjo Cisse, Goncalo Ramos and Ruben Loftus-Cheek - to secure a comfortable victory. Marcus Rashford made his first United appearance in 20 months off the bench having ironically been frozen out at his boyhood club by Amorim.
