Man Utd player ratings: Martinez 2/10 in Chelsea defeat

Manchester United suffered a 2-0 defeat at Chelsea on Saturday, with Lisandro Martinez sent off and rated 2/10 as the team's worst performer in a loss that heaps more pressure on manager Michael Carrick. The result extends United's winless run to nine games in all competitions.

Second-half collapse seals defeat

A goalless first half saw both teams have goals disallowed for offsides, with Bruno Fernandes and Amad both missing the target when they should have scored. Chelsea took control after the restart when Morgan Rogers opened the scoring, dribbling through United's defence before dinking the ball into the net.

United gifted Chelsea a second goal when Martinez elbowed Wesley Fofana, earning his second yellow card in two minutes and conceding a penalty. Cole Palmer fired the spot-kick into the bottom corner.

Player ratings from Stamford Bridge

Senne Lammens - 5: Not to blame for the Rogers goal, with his defenders letting him down. Almost saved the penalty but was beaten by sheer power. Made a couple of saves late on.

Leny Yoro - 5: Played better than against Bournemouth last weekend, but not by much. Finished as United's best defender, which was not difficult given how poor they were in the second half.

Harry Maguire - 3: Stood still and watched Rogers waltz through to score. Then played Estevao onside for Chelsea's disallowed third.

Lisandro Martinez - 2: Utterly dreadful. Could not get close enough to Rogers for the opening goal and launched a brainless elbow at Fofana, earning two yellow cards in two minutes.

Diogo Dalot - 5: Played reasonably well in the first half, delivering several dangerous crosses, but tailed off after the interval.

Andrey Santos - 4: Started well but was one of several players to blame for the Rogers goal, tackling the grass rather than his man.

Carlos Baleba - 5: Strong in the engine room apart from the opening goal, when he dived in and left a huge space for Rogers.

Amad - 4: Ran rings around Fofana and found space in the final third, but was horribly wasteful, missing at least two first-half chances.

Bruno Fernandes - 3: Did not play well on his return to the starting line-up. Blazed a huge chance over the crossbar early on and went into his shell after Chelsea pulled ahead.

Bryan Mbeumo - 5: Played a brilliant through ball to Fernandes to set up United's best chance of the first half.

Matheus Cunha - 5: Had a close-range goal disallowed for a marginal offside. Asked questions of Chelsea's defenders but could not score.

Substitutes and the bigger picture

Kobbie Mainoo - 5: Replaced Baleba just before the hour mark. Could not stem the tide as United conceded from the penalty spot.

Mason Mount - 3: Loudly booed as he replaced Cunha in the 65th minute. Did next to nothing.

Ayden Heaven - 5: Brought on after Martinez's red card to restore a back four. United did not concede while he was on the pitch.

Joshua Zirkzee - 5: Got a run out in the closing stages. Did not do much worth mentioning apart from getting booked.

The result leaves United one point above the Premier League relegation zone heading into the rest of the weekend's fixtures, having won just one league game all season.
