Manchester United are preparing to make a massive statement of intent with a £50 million overhaul of their Carrington training complex, according to reports.
The ambitious project – backed by new minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe – aims to bring United's facilities up to the same elite standard as local rivals Manchester City's Etihad Campus.
Radical Transformation Planned
Insiders reveal the redevelopment will be comprehensive, potentially including:
- Brand new first-team buildings with cutting-edge recovery facilities
- Upgraded medical and sports science departments
- Modernised academy infrastructure
- Improved pitches with the latest surface technology
The current Carrington base, which opened in 2000, has fallen behind rivals' facilities in recent years. This investment could help United attract and develop top talent.
Ratcliffe's Vision for United
Sir Jim Ratcliffe, whose INEOS group took a 25% stake in United last year, has made modernising the club's infrastructure a priority. The billionaire believes world-class facilities are essential for competing at the highest level.
"This isn't just about keeping up with City," a source close to the project said. "It's about creating an environment where players can maximise their potential and the club can build sustained success."
The redevelopment is expected to begin later this year, with United aiming to minimise disruption to first-team operations during the construction phase.
