Manchester United have revealed that it cost the club £21.4 million to sack Erik ten Hag and appoint Ruben Amorim as his replacement. The Dutchman was dismissed on 28 October, along with his coaching staff including René Hake, Jelle ten Rouwelaar, Pieter Morel, and Ruud van Nistelrooy. Compensation for Ten Hag and his team totalled £10.4 million.
Bringing in Amorim and his coaching quintet—Carlos Fernandes, Jorge Vital, Adélio Cândido, Emanuel Ferro, and Paulo Barreira—from Sporting cost a further £11 million, according to the club's latest accounts. The 39-year-old Portuguese manager is United's sixth permanent boss since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in May 2013.
Amorim's first game in charge ended in a 1-1 draw at Ipswich Town on Sunday. He will lead United in his opening match at Old Trafford on Thursday in the Europa League against Bodø/Glimt. Amorim said: 'It will be special, but it will be more special if we win. So that’s the goal, but it’s a special moment in my life, in our staff’s life, and I hope it will be the beginning of something very beautiful.'
