Manchester United are aiming to finish their turbulent 2025/26 Premier League campaign with an away victory at Brighton & Hove Albion this weekend, as attention swiftly turns to the summer transfer window. The Red Devils have seen a resurgence under interim boss Michael Carrick, who has guided them to third place in the league standings.
Carrick Set for Permanent Role
Carrick, the former club captain, is expected to be rewarded with a permanent managerial appointment. Although no official announcement has been made, reports indicate that negotiations have stalled over the composition of his backroom staff. The 44-year-old is poised to sign a two-year contract with an option for an additional 12 months. His immediate focus remains on the final fixture of the season at the Amex Stadium against Fabian Hürzeler's Brighton side.
Dressing Room Backs Rashford's Barcelona Move
Barcelona vice-captain Frenkie de Jong has revealed that the dressing room believes Marcus Rashford has "earned the right" to make his loan move permanent. The Manchester United forward has impressed during his stint with the Spanish giants, contributing 28 goals and assists in 48 appearances and helping them secure the La Liga title and the Supercopa. Rashford is keen to continue working under Hansi Flick, and De Jong's comments underscore the squad's support.
De Jong told Spanish outlet Sport: "Yes, he has earned the right to stay. In the minutes he’s played, he’s given us a lot: goals, assists, attacking runs. He’s a fast player who poses a real threat to opposing defences. I’d be delighted if he stays with us. I saw him arrive full of enthusiasm. He was very happy to be here, and from the first moment, it was clear he wanted to stay. He’s tried to adapt as best he can, and I’ve seen him doing well."
£110m Double Midfield Deal Eyed
Manchester United have identified Newcastle United's Sandro Tonali and Atalanta's Ederson as their top midfield targets for the summer. According to Sky Sports News, the club is confident of securing both players, whose combined valuation stands at £110 million. United are reportedly competing with Atletico Madrid for Ederson but have already reached an agreement with the player on personal terms, including a weekly salary of £100,000. However, they must still negotiate a fee with Atalanta, who are demanding £40 million.
Regarding Tonali, reports suggest Newcastle are willing to sell but will not accept less than £70 million. Meanwhile, Casemiro has announced his departure following the Brighton game, and other midfielders like Manuel Ugarte are also rumoured to be seeking moves elsewhere.
