Man Utd confirm Orozco as sixth summer signing

Manchester United have officially confirmed the signing of Cristian Orozco, making him their sixth acquisition of the summer transfer window. The 18-year-old attacking midfielder joins from Colombian side Fortaleza CEIF, where he has been capped at Under-18 level for Colombia.

Move finalised after turning 18

Orozco's transfer was finalised last month when he turned 18, although United delayed the announcement until Thursday night. The statement confirmed that the teenager will initially join the club's academy setup.

Reports of United's interest in Orozco emerged last year, and the player later confirmed he visited Carrington in December.

Player's ambitions

Speaking to ESPN Colombia about the move, Orozco said: "I know my strengths are my physicality and my technique. I have those qualities and, with the gift God gave me, I don’t think it will be too difficult. But everything is about adapting. I’m very young and that’s what I’ll need to do."

He added: "I expect to learn a lot of English. When I was there, I realised just how, how important it is. I want to arrive and learn as quickly as possible. That’s what’s required so I can show my level and everything I’m capable of. I want to adapt to everything that comes my way as quickly as possible."

Senior midfield reinforcements

While Orozco is set to join the academy, United have also strengthened their senior midfield with the signings of Andrey Santos from Chelsea and Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa. Further midfield additions may follow before the transfer deadline.
