Manchester United are on the verge of sanctioning Joshua Zirkzee's departure, with negotiations advancing over a season-long loan to Juventus. The Dutch striker has struggled for game time at Old Trafford and is expected to leave this summer.
Zirkzee's struggles at United
Zirkzee joined United from Bologna for £34 million two years ago but has failed to make a significant impact. He started just one Premier League match in the second half of last season and has fallen down the pecking order under manager Michael Carrick.
Despite scoring in Friday's 5-0 friendly win over Rosenborg, Zirkzee was demoted to the bench for the clash against Atletico Madrid, with Bryan Mbeumo preferred up front. Mbeumo scored twice as United came from behind to win 2-1.
Juventus talks progress
According to Sky Sports Italy, discussions between United and Juventus are progressing well. Personal terms have been agreed between Zirkzee and the Serie A club, who are optimistic about securing the Netherlands international with a purchase option for next summer.
United would have preferred a permanent sale but have accepted a temporary arrangement. Juventus Chief Football Officer Fredric Massara is leading negotiations.
Zirkzee's United career
Zirkzee was signed by Erik ten Hag in 2024 after United's FA Cup triumph. Although he scored on his Premier League debut against Fulham and started the season as the club's primary No.9, he was later overshadowed by Rasmus Hojlund under successive managers.
He finished last season with over 2,200 minutes played but managed only seven goals. The arrivals of Matheus Cunha, Mbeumo, and Sesko last summer pushed him further down the hierarchy.
The former Bayern Munich talent scored twice in 26 appearances last season and is now set to depart, with Juventus leading the chase.
Other exits and potential arrivals
Zirkzee is set to join Radek Vitek and Altay Bayindir in leaving United. Vitek is close to a £7 million plus add-ons move to Middlesbrough, while Bayindir has agreed to join Celta Vigo on a season-long loan.
In terms of incoming transfers, United are searching for a new left-back, with Newcastle United's Lewis Hall a target. Aurelien Tchouameni also remains linked with a move to Old Trafford.
