Manchester United could still take advantage of Newcastle's nightmare summer by landing Lewis Hall. The Red Devils have identified Hall as a long-term Luke Shaw replacement, with the left-back having dazzled for the Magpies since breaking into the starting XI.
Hall has a contract with United until 2029, and Newcastle's current stance is that the youngster isn't for sale at any price. It comes after the North East outfit were forced into selling Anthony Gordon (Barcelona), Sandro Tonali (Tottenham), and Bruno Guimaraes (Arsenal) already this summer.
Only an extraordinary offer could change Newcastle's position
However, according to Fabrizio Romano, the Red Devils still have one way they could sign Hall before the end of this summer's transfer window. Speaking on his YouTube channel, the transfer guru said: "Manchester United are looking to strengthen at left-back and that could be one of their next priorities."
"At the moment, Lewis Hall is considered too expensive and Newcastle have absolutely no intention of selling him. Newcastle have already lost several important figures this summer. Sandro Tonali joined Tottenham, Anthony Gordon moved to Barcelona, Bruno Guimaraes is joining Arsenal and they've also lost manager Eddie Howe."
Before adding: "Because of that, Newcastle are determined to keep Lewis Hall. Only an extraordinary offer could change their position, so we'll continue to monitor the situation over the coming days."
United's left-back need intensifies
The need for a left-back has intensified for United over pre-season, given the emergence of Patrick Dorgu as a genuine winger option. Dorgu has been featuring for the three-time European champions in attack, with Marcus Rashford's future at the club still under doubt.
And ex-United star Patrice Evra has urged his former club to push hard to bring Hall to Old Trafford. Speaking to PariuriX.com, he remarked: "I really like Lewis Hall, I think he is a very exciting player. He reminds me a lot of Patrice Evra who was always bombarding forward. He had the mental strength to believe he could both attack and defend very well."
"Patrice Evra and Lewis Hall play in a very similar style and I like the fact that Lewis Hall is very comfortable on the ball as well. He is also a product of the new invention Pep Guardiola created as he can go inside and play in the midfield as well." Alternative options
