Manchester United Receive Boost in Pursuit of Carlos Baleba

Manchester United have been given encouragement in their pursuit of Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba, despite pulling out of a deal this summer. The 21-year-old is reportedly willing to wait for a move to Old Trafford, even if it means staying at Brighton for another season.

United had identified Baleba as their primary target for a defensive midfielder and held talks with Brighton through intermediaries earlier this month. However, Brighton made it clear they did not want to sell, and a £120 million asking price—higher than the fee for Moises Caicedo—was deemed too steep by United.

Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler expressed confidence that Baleba would remain at the club, saying he was 'very, very, very confident' about the player staying. Hurzeler noted that Baleba has shown no signs of discontent and is enjoying his time at Brighton.

United have already spent £207.5 million on three forwards—Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Benjamin Sesko—and manager Ruben Amorim now prioritises strengthening midfield. The club may either wait until next year to revive their interest or pursue an alternative target.

Baleba, who joined Brighton from Lille two years ago, is seen as a developing talent. United believe he could improve further this season, potentially increasing his value. Personal terms would not be an obstacle, as the Cameroonian is keen on the move.
