Manchester United are increasingly confident of signing Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig in a deal that could reach £74.1m. The Slovenia international has indicated his preference to join Old Trafford, despite Newcastle United offering Champions League football.
United have offered £65.4m upfront with the remainder in add-ons for the 21-year-old striker, who is expected to sign a five-year contract. Newcastle are also interested, but Sesko favours a move to Manchester.
After completing deals for Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Diego León, manager Ruben Amorim has prioritised a No 9 following United's tally of 44 goals in 38 Premier League games last season. The club missed out on Liam Delap, who joined Chelsea, and Hugo Ekitiké, who moved to Liverpool from Eintracht Frankfurt. Ollie Watkins was another target, but Aston Villa's £60m valuation proved prohibitive.
Sesko scored 13 goals in 33 Bundesliga appearances last season and added four more in the Champions League. His arrival would take United's summer spending to approximately £214m, shifting focus to player sales.
Marcus Rashford has already departed on loan to Barcelona, who will cover his wages. However, no deals have been finalised for Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, Antony or Tyrell Malacia. None have featured in Amorim's pre-season plans and were given extra time away to seek moves.
Sesko's signing would also cast doubt on Rasmus Højlund's future. The Dane, who joined for £72m from Atalanta, has struggled as a central striker and has been made available for transfer. United would also consider a loan if a club covers his wages and pays a fee.
