Manchester United and Arsenal have both released statements confirming the permanent transfer of James Scanlon. The 19-year-old has left Old Trafford and moved to north London, having been linked with a move throughout the summer.
Scanlon is expected to initially join Arsenal's Under-21 team. Speaking after the move was announced, he said: "It's a pleasure to be here, I can't wait to get started. I've been waiting to get this over the line, so I'm buzzing to be here. My family are massive to me, so to have them here for this special day is only going to make it better."
Scanlon's Old Trafford departure
The forward added: "You can see that everyone here is hungrier for more, hungrier to get better and I think that's something I believe I can add to and want to be a part of as well. I like to score goals, assist, so hopefully I can excite players who watch me. I'm looking forward to playing, representing the badge, improving and hopefully showing people what I can do."
Scanlon came through United's youth setup, establishing himself as a regular for the under-21 side before a loan spell at Swindon Town, where he scored once in six appearances. United released a statement to announce the deal, saying: "Everyone at the club would like to wish James all the best with the next step in his career."
Further Arsenal academy additions
Scanlon's arrival could be followed by another familiar face, with Arsenal also tracking United's Habeeb Ogunneye, who spent last season on loan at Newport County. The club's transfer activity reflects a continued commitment to securing promising young talent.
England youth international striker Vincent Joseph, 16, has joined following his departure from Liverpool, with a tribunal set to determine the fee Arsenal will pay. Mylo Bernard has moved from Crystal Palace, while Elijah Upson left Tottenham to cross north London. Axel Donczew is expected to complete a move from Cardiff City after an outstanding breakthrough campaign in Wales.
Igor Tyjon has also been signed from Blackburn Rovers. He said: "It feels amazing. I've waited a long time for this and I can't wait to get started. It's a dream come true for [my family] as well, it's always a nice feeling when you make your family happy, so I'm buzzing for them as well. Who doesn't want to join the champions? I can't wait to be part of the team. The pathway, the staff, the players, everything about it, it's just top. I'm excited to meet the group, meet the players, hit the ground running and have a good season."
