Manchester United are entering the final stretch of pre-season with four starting spots still up for grabs ahead of their Premier League opener against Hull City on August 22.
After four friendlies, Michael Carrick's squad are in Ireland for a training camp, with matches against Leeds and AC Milan to conclude the schedule. The World Cup has staggered player returns, and some may not be fit enough to start the season.
Secure spots
Senne Lammens, Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, Andrey Santos, Bruno Fernandes, Bryan Mbeumo, and Amad are all but confirmed in the starting XI. Benjamin Sesko is battling to regain full fitness.
Right-back battle
Leny Yoro started pre-season at right-back but moved to centre-back in the second half against PSG, suggesting his future lies there. Noussair Mazraoui started that game, while Diogo Dalot came off the bench, leaving the race open.
Centre-back partner
Ayden Heaven has started alongside Maguire in four straight games, but a tough 45 minutes against PSG has given Yoro a chance to overtake him. Lisandro Martinez is unlikely to be ready to start.
Midfield decision
Mason Mount was a lock next to Santos, but a precautionary substitution against PSG has opened the door for Youri Tielemans, who impressed in a cameo in Sweden.
Left-wing race
Marcus Rashford's return adds intrigue, but he is unlikely to be fit to start. Patrick Dorgu has started all four friendlies and leads, but Matheus Cunha could challenge if he recovers from illness.
