Sir Jim Ratcliffe is facing a stark financial reality as Manchester United attempt to offload a group of wantaway players this summer. The club could lose up to £213 million in total on transfer fees paid for Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Jadon Sancho, and Tyrell Malacia, whose valuations have plummeted since their arrivals.
Rashford has joined Barcelona on a season-long loan with a £26 million option to buy, a fraction of the £100 million United once valued him at. Garnacho, initially worth £70 million, now has a £40 million asking price after interest from Chelsea and Napoli. Antony, signed for £82 million from Ajax, is valued at around £40 million after a productive loan at Real Betis, but the Spanish club deemed that too high.
Sancho, a £73 million signing in 2021, has attracted a £15 million offer from Juventus as he enters the final year of his contract. Malacia, who cost £13 million from Feyenoord, needs to raise £3.22 million to avoid a PSR loss, but his value has fallen significantly. Manager Ruben Amorim has left these players out of pre-season plans, but insists they are welcome back if no deals are finalised.
