Manchester United host Ipswich Town at Old Trafford with six players absent for the home side and four missing for the visitors, as Michael Carrick's team look to bounce back from their opening-day defeat.
The Reds were comprehensively beaten 2-0 by Hull City in their last outing, and have since completed the signing of Carlos Baleba from Brighton and Hove Albion for £75 million. Ipswich, meanwhile, began their campaign by overcoming Sunderland despite being heavy underdogs.
United's absentees
Carrick confirmed Amad Diallo will be absent for the visit of the Tractor Boys as he continues to recover from a minor injury sustained in training recently. When asked for an update on the Ivorian, who also missed the defeat to Hull, Carrick said: "Amad won’t be involved, he’ll be out for a little bit longer."
Mason Mount will also remain absent for the clash against the East Anglians. Carrick did make it clear he is on the mend, saying: "Mase is back around the group, he trained this week, so a real positive."
Despite his arrival, the United boss also stated Baleba will likely not be fit enough for the battle against Ipswich. The Reds manager said: "He’s got a little ankle issue, so maybe a couple of weeks or so, three weeks. We knew that before. It’s no major issue. It’ll be great to have him back."
Long-term injuries and Ipswich's missing four
Long-term injury absentee Matthijs De Ligt remains unable to feature for United, but is edging closer to full fitness. Carrick provided an update on the Dutchman, saying: "Matta's obviously been out for a long period of time. But he's training and it's great to have him back. He won't be involved, but he's in good shape and moving in a good direction, so that's a good bonus for us really, at this stage, to have him back."
While he would not have been in the frame to start, substitute goalkeeper Tom Heaton will be injured for the clash. Carrick has not provided an injury timeline for the shot-stopper, who injured himself in the pre-season friendly with PSG.
Ipswich Town are missing four players. Jaden Philogene is out with an ankle injury and was absent for the victory over Sunderland. Florentino Luis is out with a calf injury, having also missed the clash against the Black Cats. Azor Matusiwa, another absentee from last week, will be out again with a thigh injury. Jack Taylor is also still nursing a knee injury having also been too injured to feature in the Premier League opener.
