Man United Keep Carrick After Bournemouth Loss

Michael Carrick will remain in charge of Manchester United, but he remains under intense pressure to save his job. The decision was made after a lengthy conference call on Monday involving co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the Glazer family, Omar Berrada and Jason Wilcox to discuss the head coach's future.

Stay of Execution After Bournemouth Defeat

The 45-year-old looked set to be sacked after United were comfortably beaten 3-0 by Bournemouth at Old Trafford last Sunday. However, after the club's chiefs disagreed over who to appoint as a replacement, they opted to give Carrick an opportunity to turn the club's results around.

It is understood that many United players also have a desire to help Carrick arrest the slump, despite the nature of the team's performances almost suggesting otherwise. Carrick will lead the team in this weekend's trip to Chelsea.

Board Members at Risk

Some of United's high-level board members could themselves be at risk following a poor start to the campaign. The club spent over £150 million on transfers this season, but the bulk of the spending was channelled to United's midfield, where they signed Carlos Baleba, Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos, with no new defenders brought in.

As updates continue to emerge from Old Trafford, the Manchester Evening News will provide any and all updates on Carrick's future.
