Man United fans send JJ Gabriel message after Atletico debut

JJ Gabriel made his first senior appearance for Manchester United in Saturday's 2-1 victory over Atletico Madrid, coming on for a 10-minute cameo at the Strawberry Arena in Stockholm.

The 15-year-old forward was greeted warmly by supporters during his brief run-out. Michael Carrick spoke afterwards about handing Gabriel his first senior minutes.

Path to the senior team

Gabriel had already travelled with the squad for the pre-season trip to Trondheim to face Rosenborg, where he was an unused substitute in a 5-0 win. Despite Carrick reducing his travelling squad to 23, Gabriel retained his place for the Atletico Madrid game.

He was too young to feature in the Premier League last season, but will be eligible next season.

Gabriel's prospects this season

United are not expected to rush Gabriel into the limelight this season. However, with the Reds fighting across four fronts this campaign, there will be chances for the teenager to get competitive first-team minutes.
