Manchester United are reportedly exploring the possibility of signing a new centre-forward in January following Benjamin Sesko's injury, with Leeds United striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin emerging as a potential target.
Sesko has not featured for United since their Carabao Cup clash with Brighton on September 16, having experienced pain in his shin following the encounter. The club subsequently began assessing the best course of action for his recovery at Carrington. He is now expected to be out until at least January.
Sesko's recurring injury problems
The striker also missed the final three matches of last season with a shin injury before sitting out the entirety of pre-season as he continued his rehabilitation. United now face the prospect of being without a recognised centre-forward for at least the next three months, with the club consulting specialists to determine the most suitable treatment plan for Sesko.
Speaking ahead of United's clash with Como last week, Michael Carrick provided an update on Sesko's injury situation, saying: "We're hoping soon that we have a clear picture. I'm not trying to delay it, hopefully by the end of the week we will have something clearer. There has been some work going on."
Calvert-Lewin on United's radar
When Sesko suffered a shin injury last season, United opted for rest rather than surgery to aid his recovery. A similar discussion took place after the striker experienced pain in the same area last month.
United are now weighing up their options ahead of the January transfer window, which opens on New Year's Day. According to The Athletic, Calvert-Lewin is among the names being considered, having been on the club's radar for some time.
United's recruitment team are reportedly assessing whether a deal could be struck when the window opens. However, the likelihood of a transfer is believed to be low, particularly given the England international's importance to Leeds United this season.
Calvert-Lewin's form and contract
Calvert-Lewin has scored four goals in eight Premier League appearances this campaign, and Leeds are understood to be keen on securing his long-term future with a new contract. The striker only arrived at Elland Road on a free transfer from Everton in the summer of 2025, signing a three-year deal that runs until 2028.
