Man United close on Bayindir loan as fifth summer deal nears

Manchester United are reportedly closing in on their fifth deal of the summer transfer window, with an agreement near for goalkeeper Altay Bayindir to join LaLiga side Celta Vigo on loan.

Loan move to Celta Vigo

According to Spanish reports, an agreement is close between United and Celta Vigo for the out-of-favour Bayindir. Faro de Vigo claim that Celta hope to secure a loan deal in the coming days, as manager Claudio Giraldez wants the 28-year-old to compete with Andrei Radu for the number one spot next season.

Bayindir joined the Red Devils from Fenerbahce in September 2023 and has less than a year remaining on his contract at Old Trafford, though United hold an option to trigger a 12-month extension.

Limited chance of a fee

Spanish publication AS state there is very little chance of United receiving a fee from Celta, while Bayindir would have to reduce his wages to make a permanent move happen.

Bayindir began last season as United's first-choice Premier League goalkeeper, but lost his place to summer signing Senne Lammens at the beginning of October and has not made a competitive appearance since. He was an unused substitute in United's pre-season friendly win over Atletico Madrid on Saturday and appears to have slipped down the goalkeeping pecking order.

Goalkeeper options and further signings

Karl Darlow has arrived on a free transfer after his exit from Leeds, while experienced stopper Tom Heaton has agreed a one-year extension on his contract and is likely to continue as the third-choice option. In addition, 19-year-old goalkeeper Kit Margetson has moved to Old Trafford following the end of his contract at Championship side Swansea.

United remain active in the transfer market, with the focus on a third midfield signing to follow the recent arrivals of Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans.
