Man City's PSG humiliation: 13-minute collapse in 2-4 defeat

Manchester City's defiance lasted less than 13 minutes before Paris Saint-Germain inflicted their own punishment in a 4-2 defeat at the Etihad. Three first-half goals from Desire Doue, Ousmane Dembele and Vitinha helped Luis Enrique's side dominate.

PSG's first-half onslaught

Doue finished a quick move covering the length of the pitch, drilling a low shot into the bottom corner to make it 1-0 inside 13 minutes. Before City could respond, Doue turned provider, taking a cross from Dembele before returning the favour for Dembele to plant a header past Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Vitinha drew a sharp save from Donnarumma, while Achraf Hakimi hit the post, as PSG went in search of a third, which arrived moments later thanks to Vitinha's clinical finish. It was the first time since 2015 City had conceded three first-half goals.

Guardiola watches on

Pep Guardiola returned to the scene of the crime, lending support to his former club in their hour of need. He had not been missed since stepping down at the end of last season, with Enzo Maresca winning his first six games in charge. But making it seven against the best side in Europe proved a different ball-game altogether.

PSG arrived as reigning, back-to-back Champions League holders, a team that could afford to leave Khvicha Kvaratskhelia on the bench. Warren Zaire-Emery tested Donnarumma from long range, while Ruben Dias had to intervene with Dembele poised to strike.

Second-half fightback falls short

Maresca made a triple change at the start of the second half, and Haaland offered a glimmer of hope when he headed past Matvei Safonov. Maresca's men looked like a different team, with more passion and energy. Enzo Fernandez headed wide and PSG looked slightly rattled for a spell.

But when Donnarumma failed to keep out a stinging strike from Akliouche just after the hour mark, the game was done and dusted. Donnarumma appeared to have kept out the curling shot with a sublime save, but when the ball landed it spun back across the line. Haaland added his second of the night, but it was all in vain. PSG could even afford to miss a late penalty.
